BREITLING EMERGENCY II: A SATELLITE WATCH

Breitling first launched the Emergency I watch in 1995. The basic idea behind the Emergency is that it can send a distress single should you get lost at sea or find yourself in another stick situation. The Emergency I used an analog system, making it difficult to find someone unless his approximate location was known. The Emergency II uses satellite GPS location, making it possible to find the watch’s wearer in much more challenging circumstances.

What makes the Breitling Emergency II interesting is that it looks like a traditional watch. It doesn’t have a digital face or other high-tech features. Appearance wise, it looks like any other Breitling, masculine and sophisticated but more vintage style than cutting edge. It is odd Breitling would choose to release this watch, with one foot in the digital world and one in the traditional world, especially when anticipation for the iWatch and other tech-heavy watches is dominating the market. This could be Breitling’s way of trying to appeal to both the traditionalists and tech crowd.

This watch certainly looks good enough to justify the $19,000 price tag. If the technology delivers, than Breitling may have a real winner on their hands. Moving forward, will the Emergency III have more technological features or will it stay an analog watch with an incredible tech feature?
